Arrg! I hate those noobs that don't know how to play. There are the ones who get their balls to bounce back and hit team mates (or they throw it too low and hit you in the back of the head), the ones who run to the edge of the screen thinking they will be protected there, and the ones who are a combo of the previous two noobs. I have played many games where one or both of my allies were noobs. Once, I had two noobs with me and they just killed themselves and I won the match alone.

Reply

Just some advice:

Keep separated, everyone hides at the back
and everyone throws to the back!

Better throw bouncer to foe at valleys

Throw your bouncer parallel to the snow
and it becomes a hyper roller!

Walk straight to your foe, get close enough
throw your brick

i'm ky in the game

I'm Sgt Pickles (now an Overlord) and I will throw a brick at you. Blooz!!! They really need to fix the bugs (esp. the chat one and the one allowing editing!)I like this game !

Real fun game!

I'm Brad in the game and I agree with those who say it's annoying to get killed by teammates... But hey, I did it a few times the first games I played... (But don't brick me! I don't do it anymore! lol)

I'm still an overlord at 95 562 points... When do we get to next level?

Reply

I'm now Position 11, 394,458 points. Still Overlord, I think that's the highest title. Rank 1 might have a different one. This game can get frustrating easily because many people don't know how to play yet, 90% of my damage comes from teammates throwing seemingly at random. Hardly anyone closes in on the enemy using terrain either, everyone just backs up to the edge of the screen and blindly throws.

About scoring - you get more points for direct hits and using different weapons. If you use the same weapon over and over gain, it will eventually give you zero points. Rollers are the easiest to use, but give little score return for roll hits. Keep an eye on your score as you are playing.

Here's a good one that catches a lot of people off guard - you can use the Cluster like a grenade. It rolls with the same properties as a Roller. So if the other group is bunched up at the bottom of a hill, roll a Cluster softly and time it so it hits them, then explodes on them.

It seems like the game is filling in with bots more and more often. I notice a lot of capitalized first names that are slightly odd, like Jaina, Armando, Frederic, etc. and they ALWAYS HIT MY IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD!!!!!!!!

It probably helps speed up the game though. Last night when I tried, I was getting kicked from every single game.

This game makes me happy :P

Reply

I think I'm missing something with the scoring system. I've played a lot of matches and I'm at Position 4, there are people above me with over a hundred less matches played. I think the way they are scoring so high in each game is just using the Normal shot and tapping everyone to death.

My matches usually only last 2-4 rounds. I close distance while using a Roller or Cluster, then take out the other team with one or two bricks. The rest of my team is usually busy hitting me while back against a wall. Maybe I need to play more conservatively... wins apparently count for nothing ranking or score wise. I also end up dead a lot playing aggresively and I don't think your score counts at all if you die, even if your team wins on the same round.

My matches are really inflated now.

"lui" = "lazy" in Dutch. This game is from Sony's European website, and is therefore available in many different languages.

I was told by the developer that the original design for the game included chat (not just canned messages), but it was removed by request of the client (Sony). So that's why you can't have everything. =p

If the game does very well (and once they get on top of the issues people are having with it) then maybe we'll see additional features added in the future(?)

Reply

Here is what needs to be fixed (In my opinion)
1. Lag issues
2. New music? I love it but after 4 hours...
3. Chat. Do something with it.
4. More weapons.
5. Let me actually edit my charector!
6. Few more maps?
7. I also have issue with the fact that you don't get points for finishing off someone, surviving, or don't lose them for hitting/killing teammates.

But, for all of this, I love the game, it just could be so much more!

Reply

That was much more fun yesterday even though there was no chat available... Today the game is SO slow, you get to do your move when the precedent moves aren't dissapeared, the movement is all jerky. Plus, I keep getting kicked out, even if I hit the other team more than my teammates. Very frustrating...
I guess I'll come back later... Too bad, I really was expecting to play today, but what was a pleasure yesterday is really annoying today...
Oh well...

Mike - the message that you have been kicked for poor performance is regarding your communication with the server, not about your relative success in the game. With the game having been just released and tons of people playing it, my guess is that the problems are due to the servers being hammered by players.

Carey Beth - try logging out and logging back in. When you play does the game show your login name above your character, or does it say "Lazy"+something?

Hmmm... I'm suspicious whether all (or even *any*?) of the other players are human, for three reasons:

1. I've never seen anybody I know (even after over 100 matches)
2. The names seem to be a bit too 'namey'. Always one word, nothing too strange...
3. I've never seen anyone just disappear as if they'd exited mid-game

On another issue, does anyone know whether multiple hits from a single shot help your accuracy? I've had 7 hits from one shot before now, but my accuracy seems to stay at about 43%. Shouldn't your accuracy figure be calculated from "hits per match" divided by "shots per match"?

Reply

Bricks do great damage, but have a low score to damage ratio...

My main strategy is to roll a bouncer or a cluster along the ground at high speed, and attempt to have it explode soon after passing the enemies (causing the shards to hit) or, if the terrain permits, have it roll back and hit the enemies again. Usually I only use rollers when shooting up onto a plateau from below. Bricks can still be handy if you have an enemy at near full health that you can hit easily, and normal shots can nearly always be replaced with bricks.

My current record for a single game is 5707, achieved through 12 bouncer hits at about full speed (on the mountain level), but that can only be done if your enemies hit neither themselves nor you (much)...

Reply

Oh and clusters do not behave like rollers before they explode (as was stated earlier), but rather as bouncers. Both clusters and bouncers can follow curves better than rollers (in the sense they have more speed and do more damage), but only if you can make them hit the curve nearly parallel.

It's also odd that I don't recall playing with or against anyone else with over 300 matches, though I've played with others 10 or more times. I'm beginning to suspect there's a factor in the engine which doesn't allow high ranked players to see each other...

Some of you might have seen me on the Blooz team. I'm greyoak.

I have a tendency of attempting to swoop in on the enemy, switching up my grounds, even appearing behind them, or on the very edge on the opposite side of the screen. Isn't that dandy!

Reply

I hope they will fix the bugs... I couldn't finish one game in four attempts because I was always kicked out... Also, I realized that my connection was so bad that some of the turns didn't even show on my screen. One minute we're three on the team, the other I lost 20 points and my two teammates are dead... And I never saw anything of that happen...

So I don't know if that's my internet connection that is too cheap or if it is the game that needs to be fixed, but I can't play... =(

Reply

Either this game is buggy or its my flash player. EVERY SINGLE TIME I play a game, I'm only given a "Normal" ball and I've played atleast 5 games, and yet my character info only shows 1 match played. The other issue I have with this game is it too luck-based. You have no idea where your opponent will go and I've missed a lot of shots, but my opponents hit me 90% of the time, no matter where I move to. It seems too unfair for me. Otherwise, its an ok game. Not superb like most of you here are making it out to be. It did start to get a bit boring after the 3rd math too because all you're doing is throwing a ball at your opponents. It keeps your attention for a little while, but its not a game I would play for hours on end. The only game here that I've played from a review on this site so far is that Conqueror one.

zeldafreak104: I'm pretty sure that when the "messaging" is active, most of the players are real. I've often seen the same names come up multiple times, including people in this thread. When there's no messaging, the play seems much lower-quality and more random (e.g. I always get hit in the back of the head by teammates). So I'm guessing when there's no messaging, it's all bots. Probably because they can't get real multiplayer to work reliably.

Just a guess

Conspiracy mode ON:

Okay, I'm convinced of it now... this entire game is an experiment by Sony to see if people will play a "multiplayer" game if they think they're playing against other humans (all credit to them... it's something I've thought about doing myself).
Has anyone who's 'seen' someone they know on the game actually confirmed that that player was actually playing against them (it would be easy to apply real usernames to bots)?

Evidence:
1. I *always* start at the back, everyone I know *always* starts at the back.
2. Compare the wierdness level of names on the leaderboard to the names of people you're actually playing against. Hmmmm.
3. My friends and I have tried to log on at exactly the same time, and have never appeared in a match together. I think the extended "Please... Wait" is a fake.

I still enjoy Zwok, but I'm under no illusions now that I'm actually playing other people...

I doubt we are actually playing against real humans also just for the simple fact that I play this game mostly at work, and the firewalls and such that we have here do not allow us to play multi-player games here. Well I can connect to this game each and every time. Also the fact that there is no "lobby", most multi-player games have some sort of lobby or something. So yes I agree, this is not a multi-player game and these are all bots.

Reply

Your logic is flawed, Biohazard. Zwok is truly a multiplayer game, and I have played with and against people I know from here. Enough said.

Reply

Seems to be running real slow now :(

Reply

I think that the game switches between being multiplayer and nonmultiplayer, that's all. I think that, when a character leaves a match mid-way, which I HAVE seen, then they are replaced by a bot with about the same amount of life.

Also, I know that I've played against a human because of the whole AI issue. Some people complain that bots hit you in the back of the head. What then, of the bots that don't?

I find it easy to trick both bots and humans by moving EVERY turn, going behind them because, in all honesty, who expects the enemy to place themselves in your ranks? And this works sometimes.

But I've met someone who shot forwards only to find me not there, but then expected me to move back in front of him, and promptly bricked me upside the head.

Reply

Just to rub it in and abuse the picture you posted, Jay, I would like to point out that I got as many points as you got in 125 games, but I did it 85 :). I just played a game where I hit the entire other team with a brick on the second turn, then a roller on the third :P. I'm proud of my 54% accuracy rate, but I'm sad to say that I haven't recognized anyone from this site yet (I play under Role). However, 115,000 points used to get you rank 99, it now gets you rank 530.

Reply

Hahaha, yes, well that's a testament to how many people are now playing this game, and maybe the reason you don't see anyone you know or recognize.

The game was only just released recently, and word of it continues to spread throughout the Web, so expect it to become even more difficult to rise within the ranks.

I tried playing once again this morning, and after the first round was kicked for poor performance. Since it is from Sony's European website, maybe waiting until Europe is asleep will yield a better game play experience?

Reply

with one lucky shot i took out the whole blue team with one brick!

Reply

Haha, yeah. I like moments like those.

For me it was a little more dramatic, though.

I was the last person on my team, about halfway into the field. The enemy had all of their players, one at about 60, two at about 40. The one at 60 was a Greinz named Dan, the other two were stupid.

Anyway, I waltzed up behind the two dodging rocks left and right (they were at the edge) and threw a brick right through both of them, leaving only Dan behind. As they both flew up towards Heaven, I let out a nice little "oops, sorry!"

Then began one of the biggest one-on-one fake-out matches known to man. I'm hoping that Dan was human. If he wasn't, then he sure was a good bot, and he sure knew how to say "watch and learn" as he mutilated my team.

Reply

Is it just me, or do the more experienced players have bigger avatars? I keep on seeing smaller ones repeatedly throw a ball into a wall for example, whereas a big guy is more likely to actually try and hit you.

Reply

I believe it says somewhere about "growing" your character. I think that it has to do with how many points you have. That is, a beginner or a bot. I'm not sure if size has an effect on weapons, though, when it comes to bots.

At any rate, you can assume that a larger character is a human, though there's no proof. At the least, it's a worthy opponent.

Reply

I believe it's your rank (be it Overlord or something else) that determines both the size of your avatar and what weapons are available to you. Therefore the larger avatars will have more points, and thus (likely) more matches under their belt than the smaller avatars. While this almost always means that those with larger avatars are more skilled, the players behind them could be persistant yet unskilled while some players with smaller avatars could be upcoming prodigies.

nah making bots for that game aint hard unless u make them move if u do it based on each level u just gotta figure out wat shots work, i know on a couple levels where people spawn it will throw it straight down there hill then cluster bomb and boom, 20-60 hp gone on 3 players so about 60-140 hp total, and bouncers make better rollers than rollers, remember that.

im vladvash on zwok by the way lol, and yes bots do work on that game.

STORY

Okay...
It was the bridge level.
I was grein with two lazys
They were blue with two biggies (big avatards) and Casim(almost champion)
1: On the first shot I drop down close to the bridge and threw a cluster that did about 40 points of damage, 20 to each biggie. They did one successfull firing squad of rollers that took out both of my lazys.
2: They spouted a few "Own3d!"s and threw their rounds close to me, but I was onlly damaged by a piece of shrapnel from a cluster bomb. I thew up a cluster of my own that sprinkled onto one biggie and Casim.
3: I fronted closer, near the middle of the bridge, thay remained mostly still. They thought i would be on the hill, apparantly, so i didn't get hit. I threw a roller that killed the two biggies and said "Oops! Sorry."
4-6: we continued to cross the bridge, until I was at the slope of the enemy hill, and he was on top of mine. I said "Watch and learn", only to have some of my own shrapnel come down on my face. He said "Ha", but missed. It was 55(me) to 44(him).
7:We exchanged bricks without a word, both misses.
8:I got up on the hill and threw a roller and hit, he hit me with two shrapnel pieces.
9:

I killed him.

Annoying it's started kicking people and not replacing them. I was in one game where both sides had two players left. My partner was kicked, and I was left with the two of them. I killed one, and the other was kicked straight after, meaning I won.

The conspiracy angle is funny, but I've played with plenty of people I know and recognize, including a friend playing on a computer in the other room. I think the game is using a bizarre matchmaking setup though. There are also bots, ones with all caps names and ones that replace people who leave in mid-match. I also have no idea how people can score so high with comparatively few matches. I average several thousand points a game, but I'm killed by my team so often... that's fairly unpredictable.

Anyway, I recommended this game to a friend of mine today and upon creating the character, we noticed that a weapon called a "Bloater" was listed in the favored weapons (all 0%, obviously, just generated randomly). Maybe they are adding some new features soon?

I imagine a Bloater would be a shot that grows as it travels in the air or something similar.

Reply

Adramelech said, "but I'm killed by my team so often... ".

I'm not sure why, but I'm ALWAYS placed in the back, behind my other 2 teammates. This is a good thing most of the time. I see alot of bots(I HOPE they're bots! I'm not convinced that the bots only have all caps names, but if you are right, then I am sad about the aiming profeciency in ZWoKville among the lower-cased) taking out each other and themselves.
There is actually one screen that I have a really hard time winning, since the two bots in front on me continuously throw rollers or bouncers into the steep hill in front of them, and damage each other, and me when I try to pass them to get up the hill(which is necessary). I think I'd have a better chance to win that board, if I bricked them both to death, and then took on the Grienz 1 vs 3.
