ive got a few questions how do i get the sunken gong piece and what do you need totems for and how do i get the last gong piece in the ancient area

Ok, so I have farming tech 3 and I drop a master scientist into the pond, but they just swim around and it says enjoying the pond and he doesn't catch the algae eating fish. I'm going to run out of food soon if I can't get it, what do I do?

Reply

what happens when you gather all the butterflies rock shells and bugs?

Reply

Stuck, After purchasing Level 3 of Farming Tech, take a master farmer or master scientist to the pond, where they will collect algae-eating fish that they can use to repopulate the ocean. Once sufficient fish have been placed in the ocean, the algae will once again be under control and the villagers will have unrestricted fishing. Keep trying.

dylan , when you get all the collectibles you get a higher population. I got 115 villagers total.

Shaun, No cheats that I know of. The beginning of the game is very slow. Have patience. I put one person on building, one or two on research. The kids collect mushrooms and collectibles. Get farming 2 and building 2 as soon as you can.

dylan, Look here to see all the cheats about the totems and gong pieces. Scroll all the way down the page.

obie3, you never answered my question, I said that I had already bought level 3 of farming and tried dropping a master scientist into the pond. They just swim around and never find any fish, so I'm trying to figure out why and what I need to do to fix this.

Reply

well iv'e tried to put the master scientists in the pond to get the fish after buying level 3 farming and they put them in the ocean and nothing happens

what do i do?

Reply

>James

You should try putting Master Famrers to the pond istead of the Scientists. They'll start catching the fish!

I got a message, twice, that eight of my villagers have set off to the south part of the island in a raft. Will anything happen with this?

I am sorry I forgot to ask about another question. Is there anything with the falling pink laves or petals near the cemetery?

this is a question for Melinda: you posted on May 6 2007 at 2:35pm that you used a cheat to change your tech points. what cheat did you use? i've been searching for one for ages (i'm impatient). at the rate i'm going it will take me years to reach the 90000+ tech points needed to reach level 3 in anything. i am very much not willing to wait that long. :)

You can safely browse these hints if you just need a gentle push in the right direction. Each puzzle is referred to by number. The puzzles are counted sequentially, with 1 being the leftmost puzzle in the top row, and 16 being the rightmost puzzle in the bottom row.

Puzzle 1

  • is something that will provide warmth, protection, and technological advantage to your tribe. It can be solved at the beginning of the game.

Puzzle 2

  • requires a certain level of technology and will allow your villagers to enjoy a regular, if limited, source of food.

Puzzle 3

  • requires the completion of Puzzle 2 and a skilled villager to fashion something that will protect one of the sources of food.

Puzzle 4

  • requires a certain level of technology and a highly skilled villager who will fashion something that your villagers will need in order to completely explore some areas of the village.

Puzzle 5

  • involves the flowers and herbs located in various parts of the village. This puzzle can be completed at the beginning of the game.

Puzzle 6

  • requires a villager with well-rounded skills.

Puzzle 7

  • will open up an unlimited food supply by restoring the ocean to its former condition. You will need to have highly skilled villagers and a certain level of technology.

Puzzle 8

  • reveals ancient writings. Your villagers will need a certain level of technology, as well as the completion of Puzzle 4.

Puzzle 9

  • requires the completion of Puzzle 1, a certain level of technology, a hidden item, and the flowers and herbs that your villagers can find in various parts of the village.

Puzzle 10

  • requires a certain level of two different technologies. Drag a villager to the southeast part of the village.

Puzzle 11

  • is a special building that requires a certain level of technology. You will see a foundation appear, which your villagers can work on.

Puzzle 12

  • is another special building that requires a certain level of technology. You will see a foundation appear, which your villagers can work on.

Puzzles 13-16

  • involve the recovery of pieces of the Gong of Wonder, which can be retrieved only after meeting the necessary requirements. Retrieving the pieces will variously involve teamwork among skilled villagers, purchasing of required levels of Village Tech, and completion of Puzzles 6, 9, and 10. Your villagers will reveal some clues as you try various things in the game, and there will be more specific clues that you can study when you complete Puzzle 8.

The following are detailed spoilers for all 16 puzzles:
Don't read these unless you want to know EXACTLY how to solve each of the puzzles.

Puzzle 1

  • involves building a fire in the fire pit. Drag one of your villagers to the pile of dry wood in the southwest part of the village to gather firewood. After the wood is placed in the fire pit, take a villager to the very dry grass that can be found to the west of the coconut trees. Once the firewood and dry grass have been placed in the fire pit, drag a villager there to light the fire. You will need to replenish the firewood periodically to keep the fire from going out.

Puzzle 2

  • is the construction of a dam that will divert water from the stream to an area that can be used for farming. After you purchase Level 2 of Engineering Tech, drag a villager to the rocks that are in the middle of the lower portion of the stream. You will see a message, "He/she could probably build a dam here."

Puzzle 3

  • is a scarecrow that an adept farmer can construct in order to protect the crops from the birds. Drag an adept or master farmer to the twisted pieces of wood and vines that are located in the northern portion of the village. The scarecrow requires two trips to complete, so make sure that you finish the construction, or your crops will not be protected.

Puzzle 4

  • is the fashioning of special cutting tools that will be needed to cut away vegetation in some parts of the village. After purchasing Level 2 of Exploration Tech, drag a master scientist to the northern part of the village where he will see something among the rocks near the twisted pieces of wood and vines. Your scientist will need to make a second trip to finish the tools, so take him to the twisted wood and vines to get the necessary materials.

Puzzle 5

  • is completed when your villagers learn mastery of six special plants located in various parts of the village. Drag a villager to each of them and watch for the message that each has been mastered. The plants are (beginning in the northwest part of the village and moving clockwise): the odd-looking plant immediately to the left of the very dry grass, the blue flower between the thorns and the rocks, the small lavender flower at the northern edge of the graveyard, the black flowers near the waterfall, the bright reddish flowers south of the dam site, and the large orange-red flower at the south edge of the village.

Puzzle 6

  • is completed when you have sufficiently trained a villager to become master in three skills. That villager will become an Esteemed Elder, and a totem will be created to commemorate their new status in the village.

Puzzle 7

  • is the elimination of the algae in the ocean that was caused by over fishing. After purchasing Level 3 of Farming Tech, take a master farmer or master scientist to the pond, where they will collect algae-eating fish that they can use to repopulate the ocean. Once sufficient fish have been placed in the ocean, the algae will once again be under control and the villagers will have unrestricted fishing.

Puzzle 8

  • is the removal of the vines that cover the wall on the east side of the village. After you purchase Level 3 of Culture Tech and have completed Puzzle 4, drag a villager to the vine-covered wall and they will begin cutting away the vines.

Puzzle 9

  • is the ability to make various stews for your villagers. To make stew, you will need to have purchased Level 2 of Exploration Tech, retrieved the cauldron from the wood pile, mastered at least one of the special plants, and started a fire in the fire pit. The steps to make a stew are: 1) Drop a villager on the cauldron to put the cauldron on the fire 2) Drop a villager on the cauldron again, and he or she will go get water for the stew 3) Drop a villager on any of the mastered plants, and the villager will gather herbs for the stew. Each stew requires a total of 3 herbs, in any combination. 4) Drop a villager on the cauldron again, and he or she will go get food to add to the stew. When the stew is complete, the villager will move the cauldron off the fire. Some stews are good, some are bad, and some make your villagers do interesting things. Experiment and have fun with them. You can also find different "recipe books" that have been created for the game that contain all of the stew combinations.

Puzzle 10

  • requires Level 3 of both Engineering Tech and Culture Tech. Drag a villager to the ancient covered floor in the southeast part of the village and they will begin uncovering the site.

Puzzle 11

  • is the construction of a hospital. After you purchase both Level 3 of Engineering Tech and Medicine Tech, a foundation will appear that your villagers can work on.

Puzzle 12

  • is the construction of a sewing hut, which will allow you to change the clothing that your villagers are wearing. After you purchase Level 2 of Culture Tech, a foundation will appear that your villagers can work on.

Puzzles 13-16

  • are the pieces of the Gong of Wonder. The four pieces can be retrieved in the following ways:

    • A team of 3 Master Builders can open the crate on the beach, where one of the pieces has been hidden.

    • After purchasing Level 2 of Exploration, your villagers can clear the thorns blocking access to the gong encasement, which will also reveal a piece of the gong.

    • Prepare a magic stew that will allow one of your villagers to dive for the sunken gong piece in the pond. The herbs needed for that magic stew are: one of the black flower near the waterfall and two of the red-orange flower on the south side of the village. The pictures of the required herbs can be seen in the drawings on the wall once the vines have been removed.

    • After finishing Puzzles 6 and 10, drop a totem in the center of the uncovered mosaic to reveal a piece of the gong. Once the gong is assembled you can experiment with the effects that it has on your village. You can bang the gong once every 24 hours.

A stew lasts for about 15 minutes, regardless if none of the villagers eats
it or if they all do. If you want to get rid of a stew to prepare a new one
either wait 15 minutes or stop the game and start it again (if you have more
than one tribe you can just change to a different tribe and than back to the
one you are playing) - the cauldron is always empty at the beginning of a
game.

RARE GLITCH!!! WATCH OUT (press the button to view)

this happened to me: i just opened the crate with my 3 master builders yesterday and when my guy was carrying the gong back, one of my villagers finished something and an event window popped up so after i pressed "ok" everybody immediatly went to celebrate and my villager who was carrying the gong piece dropped it and i couldnt find it! i thought i lost it! so i kept going back to the place where i found it and it said in the action window that he was picking it up but you couldnt see anything and then the gong piece flashed as he was holding it and then it disappeared. if this happens to you exit the program then open it back up. the gong piece should be back where it's supposed to be.

I have been playing this for about 2 weeks, and I am almost finished. My villagers have to finish the hospital and find 2 pieces of the gong. And I need 1 beetle, 1 butterfly and 2 stones. any suggestions?? I don't really want to spend hours just dragging my mouse around the screen.

alexandura...place a man on top of a woman..if they run away keep doing it until they start kissing and it says in the action box "this village has improved at parenting" and going indoors...
you have to keep doing it for a while until they get the hang of it.

I haven't read through all the questions so this has probably already been answered.
But what is so special about the 2nd flower next to the gone piece. why do the children always go to that one and never the others?

How do I buy clothes for my people? I have taken them over to the Sewing hut and tried to get them to go in but they won't. I am kind of new to gaming so don't know many tricks. I have managed to get everything done but the last butterfly is still being hunted for by my children while my people uncover my mosaic, so I can't be doing that bad.

Reply

To the creators of this game:

I love VV2! It's better than the first one, but here are some suggestions for the next one: (this is based on my impatient nature, so forgive me for that)
I love how the children get bigger, but it's hard to tell who is of working age. (13 yo's and 14 yo's both say "untrained"). Maybe in the next one there could be some indicator when someone reaches the magic age. Or under skill it could be blank or say "child?"

Also, with the nursing women... it would be nice if there were a percentage (or something) floating over their heads, so that you could tell how much longer you have to scrimp for mushrooms before getting half your workforce back.

On the details page, perhaps you could place tickers on the skill bars, so that it is easier to tell exactly how skilled they are. It's a little annoying to have to flip back and forth, checking boxes and viewing what it says on the main screen.

And finally-- I'm sure I'll be criticized for this-- in the future, a game like this that is not set in real time would not be a bad idea. (Especially when in a time crunch). My hubby loves those civ games, which are similar and takes him from the beginning of time to the present. Just a thought.

Overall, great game. Glad I bought it. And good luck to all you gamers playing! :- )

Does anyone know how to make twins or triplets?

Reply
Patricia McClimans May 24, 2007 1:02 PM

The higher the parenting skills the people have the greater the probability of twins or triplets. Red cap mushrooms are worth 35 food points and brown cap mushrooms are six for people who are worried about food, have your children hunting mushrooms constantly until crops come in! You need the collectables to be able to reach the village maximum population and I think to be able to ring the gong.

jake, To make kids put the detail on parenting for a man. Drop him on a woman until he becomes a trainee parent. Stew, you need water & three herbs and food to make a stew. Collect mushrooms for food.

jen, drop a person on the sewing hut roof to change clothes.

Jp, be sure your detail isn't on healer when you drop the villager on the herb. When you drop a person on all 6 herbs the game will say ''the villagers understand the herbs''. You need that to make stews.

Anonymoose , no fast way to get collectibles. Just keep searching. When you get them all your population will go to 115.

Leah, herbs are
1. the funny looking plant up in the top left by the dry grass.
2. the blue flower next to the gong. The one the kids keep looking at.
3. the single purple flower above the cemetery.
4. the line of black flowers below, on the right, of the cemetery.
5. the red flower to the right of the mosaic.
6. the orange flower at the bottom of the island.

Does having more than one person working on the same project speed up the process? I have everyone working on building the dam because it is crucial to have it at this moment, but the progresss doesn't seem to be going much faster. Should I just let the half of the village do whatever they want while my two builders build the dam?

Reply

Lynn, I rang the gong with a master doctor and all the young women became pregnant. I don't know if that will happen again. It only happened once for me.

mizuki, I would put as many people on building the dam as you can. It goes faster with more workers.

Spoilers for life events.

If one of the children gets a chance to wish on a star wish on the star for the tribe you get 1400 tech points.
If you have the chance to shoo birds away from the food they are laying on the rocks dont shoo and you will gain the ability to learn how to preserve your food.
If you find a gold pocketwatch give it to the tribe and you will gain tech points.
If you find a burlap sack that is open dont open it it is full of fire ants that will sting your tribe.
If you get asked to shoo away birds from the pond dont since the birds are eating the mosquitos around the pond. If you shoo them away the whole tribe will get sick. Though it does allow your doctor to get master healer really fast.
If you find some gears in a sack give it to the researchers to gain tech points.
Sometimes you will get fog and you dont get a choice it will either give you food or take away food.

Help! I was just presented with a window that says one of my people notices sea birds laying fish onto the salty rocks along the shore and leaving them for a while, before flying off with them. He wonders if he should risk the ire of the birds and taste some of the fish. Then I am presented with 2 choices... First - taste the fish; Second - leave the fish alone.

Does anyone have any experience with this one?

OK so I have 40 totems, 115 people, 529864 food, 7593595 tech, hospital, sewing hut and I've been damned with just about everything nice and horrible imaginable. but I still can't find out who or what is the source of the strange magic on the island.
Am I missing something ?

All my males died and I'm down to 3 females. How do you get the toddler in the barrel to get washed up on shore? I've also heard that some people have had a couple of adults come down the waterfall - any idea how to get them to show up? I could use a couple of men in this village! Thanks...

I'm playing the online version of Virtual Villagers 2. How far can I get in this game? Will everyone eventually starve b/c I can't buy all the techs? I am no longer able to get coconuts or fish. Why don't I see any mushrooms?

how to make stew please?

crystal, I don't know why your gong won't sparkle. Maybe it's because you moved your clock.

Nanu, I don't know about the on line game.

Tori, the grave site is the large open area at the top right. There is a single purple flower way up top. Drag a person around there and the game will say ''he/she sees a strange flower'' drop them on it.

callysto, Puzzle 9 is the ability to make various stews for your villagers.

I'm extremely frustrated at how long it is taking to become a master builder. I've built 2 huts, repaired the one house, and made the sewing house. I keep throwing my people on the houses to let them fix it up but their skill level won't move past half way (does this with all the other skills too...). How long does it take to normally get it up to master. I really want to open the box!

Somehow the ages and nursing times of my villagers got stuck--however, they can still make progress building, researching, etc. Is this a side-effect of healthy stew. If so, is it permanent? If not stew driven, have I hit a software glitch?

I have read most of the posts and many of them are about early game problems SO here are . . .

TIPS and HINTS for the early phase of the game that will save your villagers' lives:

1. Make only 1 farmer/fisher at the start; it can support the initial population and gradually use the limited food sources. The others should research. Don't make any builders until the dam is ready to be built (after engineering tech 2 is purchased)
2. Make a healer, but teach them the other skills at least for one successful attempt first so they are active when not healing or they will just lay around.
3. Get the engineering 2 tech before or at the same time as the farming 2 tech so the dam can be built and irrigate the renewable crops food source (don't forget your scarecrow immediately).
4. Don't build the huts until after the dam and always use the youngest of the population to become builders (you will need 3 master builders to open the beach crate and that takes a lot of their life span and opportunity to grow the build skill is limited)
5. Once the dam is built the population can support itself comfortably up to about 13 - 15 villagers so breed some babies (you can have more but mushroom supplement will be required).
6. Research the farming 3 tech next and then the ocean is once again an unlimited food source and the village won't starve so the population can grow providing more farmers and researchers to increase the harvest and tech points faster.
