@ Connie (re: Survivor Roof):

I had a very hard time getting through the Survivor Roof level. What ended up working for me was to concentrate almost entirely on offense and avoid planting Wall- or Tall-Nuts.

I had 10 slots, which was very helpful.

I started with two rows of sunflowers, two rows of cabbage, and a row of magnets. I pumpkined the magnets when I could. I also replaced cabbage with melon-pults when I could.

And then I basically kept moving my offensive line forward and putting pumpkins on them. I replaced some sunflowers with those umbrella leaves and put in a line of cactuses close to the top of the roof so that they would fire at zombies instead of into the slope. Next I used frozen peas since it was on the top of roof. I alternated between planting frozen peas (and pumpkining) and putting in melon-pults and winter-melons.

I tried to keep a jalapeno and cherry bomb on hand. At the end, I was hit with gargantors and if it hadn't been for the roof cleaners/mowers things I wouldn't have made it through.

I hope that helps. Keep trying different combinations of offenses and defense--something's gonna work for you eventually.

re: Whack-a-Zombie

This was one of the hardest mini-games for me to beat. I think part of it has to do with luck of the draw--sometimes you get a crap hand, ya know?

1 or 2 clicks is usually enough to nail a zombie. Don't waste your time over-clicking.

Use those gravebusters to eat the graves closest to your house!

Also, there's no shame in using those lawn mowers! You should consider them as part of your overall strategy.

Good luck!

The Squash kills the Zomboni.

Can anyone give me more info on the Zen Garden?
How do you get more chocolate? Do you get it only by playing certain games on certain levels? Does it eventually show up in Dave's shop?
Does the snail collect coins for all 3 gardens or do you have to buy a snail for each? I've bought one and it is sold out at Dave's. I won 1 chocolate & fed it to him, but I don't think he lasted an hour. He's sleeping now.
Is there more to the gold watering can & the gardening glove, other than what the description for them says. How necessary are they?

Reply

Another question on the chocolate. If you feed the snail more than one, are they all used, therefore having him collect coins for longer, or do you have to feed him chocolate one at a time for each to be effective?

Reply

To SueKY:

About the Zen Garden -

Once you buy the snail, the chocolate starts showing up randomly on the levels and mini-games. It's not for sale in Dave's store, I easly have 10 chocolates in my inventory at a time. I think you have to give the snail a chocolate every time you open the Zen Garden, but he should be awake for a good while. I've left the Zen Garden open on my computer while I walk away to do other things and when I come back, the snail is still collecting coins. He does it until I close the garden. And the snail only collects coins from the regular daylight plants, not the mushrooms or water plants.

The gold watering can and the glove are nice, but not necessary. You can water 4 plants at a time with the gold can and the glove lets you move the plants around.

Reply

Thanks, Pam. My next question: I have all 3 gardens with plants in all. Sometimes when I go into the night or water garden, I see coins to collect. Are coins continually producing whether you are in a particular garden or not (while playing a game, for instance)? Do the coins only appear when you enter the garden? There don't seem to be many in the latter gardens, so what is the purpose of those two -- just to grow & sell to Dave?

How do you grow your tree to 1000 feet tall?

Mine is 60 feet tall right now and it only grows a foot at a time when adding fertilizer.
1000 feet would cost a fortune!!

I saw your posting about the 195 flag in endless. That's impressive. Questions- 1) How did you get the white pumpkin? I don't see that as an option to buy? 2) you don't have any spikes, what do you do about the Zambonies?

Yes the white pumpkins were from imatators.

The gloom-shrooms will take out the zombonies no problem you can just ignore them.

On the gardening glove:

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can use the wheelbarrow as a makeshift gardening glove if you really don't want to spend that 1000. The glove is easier to work with. Also, I've confirmed that when mushrooms are happy they will stay awake in the normal zen garden, and I think this works with aquatic plants, too. Aquatic plants don't need watering :)
Oh, and Stinky refuses to take another chocolate after you give him one until the effects wear off. You can also give them to zen garden plants, but only if they are happy. It makes them drop more coins and more quickly, for a short time.

On the tree of wisdom:

Yes, the tree grows one foot at a time...per bag of fertilizer...and the worst part is, you can only have 10 bags at a time so you have to keep going back to the shop.

On bobsled bonanza:

I failed at that. It took me all the instant except squash (should have used that) and the chomper, and I used a tallnut, and I believe repeaters...wasn't pretty. Pogo party was really easy though, not sure why anyone would have problems with it.

Survival Endless:

I hope I don't sound jealous or anything here, but a basic need for a large number of flags here would be luck. If a short fuse jack in the box detonates, it can easily wipe out your gloom-shrooms...add a few more, and some gargantuars, and you're dead. Unless, of course, you use your cob cannons on them and take them all out, but I don't see how you can do that with just two cannons...

Coin Making: marigolds, walnuts, and zombotony 1

Once you have the marigold, play the first zombotony course. Make sure you have the regular walnuts and the marigolds with you, and whatever else you feel you need.

during the last wave, pick a lane where there is one walnut-zombie at the back, and line up a bunch of walnuts to block it. leave only the walnut-zombie in the lane and then quickly dig up all your damage causing plants, so that it will take no damage.

When the walnut recharges, pick it up and spam-click the one that the zombie is currently eating. it'll only be able to move a few pixels before the new one is planted.
start replacing everything in every other lane with marigolds. at about 1000 sun you'll be able to dig up your sunflowers and survive off falling sun. this will let you harvest coins from the marigolds almost indefinitely.

End it with a one hit kill plant, or when it FINALLY makes it to the lawnmower, either or.
a bit boring, but if need gold and haven't unlocked the better paying minigames and puzzles, it's useful.

2 slight modifications, moved the cattails further forward so they deal damage a little quicker and replaced the melonpults and wintermelons in the toolbar with squash and freezeshroom. Hi, so my question is, has anyone collected one of every plant yet? (NOT counting the ones turned left vs. right, I mean and not counting the various colored marigolds) I would like to have gotten one of each but I'm still missing 2 of 4 water plants, 4 of 12 night plants (counting the sea-shroom as water, not night) and then 8 of the remaining 31. I mean, I know there aren't enough spaces in the gardens for them all at once, but certain ones have never shown up. Any way to speed up that process or any cheats for it?
Also, I would like to know how many colors the marigolds come in. Here are the ones I have:

red, orange, yellow, light blue, blue, pink, magenta, purple
Anyone know of others, or is that it? And I can't seem to get the white marigold that's available in play ever.

Thanks for any help! Oh, and by the way, here's my tip: I think cattails are far more useful than almost any other plant, on any level. You get about six of those suckers going, protected by tall nuts, and you're pretty much certain to kill off anything (except the miners).

Reply

In reply to comments above:

Filled a whole lawn with marigolds in Zombotony when only one Walnut-zombie left and blocked by a tall nut. Very very slow production of coins! Does having a lot of marigolds really make a difference? It seems that it does not! Coins only appeared once every 20 seconds or more.

In the Zen Garden it doesn't seem true that chocolate can be feed to a marigold - at least not a young one blooming on.

Reply

As for marigolds:

I've found 11 so far, I suspect there's at least twelve, as I remember a weird one with a green center from my old computer before it crashed.

Here's the colors so far:

You can't feed plants chocolate until they are capable of producing coins (i.e. with gold sparklies). AFAIK.

The way the wall-nut first aid works is -

It doesn't show up as a plant you can put in your line up. Rather, when you have the wall-nuts or tall-nuts, you click as if you're going to plant a new one, but you just place it over an existing damaged one and it's brand new again.

Whack-a-zombie is my favourite mini-game -- and a great way to pick up plants.

As soon as you pick up some sun, start buying gravebusters. Don't worry about getting rid of the graves closes to the house (not yet). Use them to clear out either the top or bottom row (whichever one has fewer graves).

Then clear out a row adjacent to the empty one. Continue with the next row. By the time the zombies start going really quickly, they should all be confined to 1 or 2 rows. That way, you can hold your mouse pointer almost motionless and just click like mad. If you want, when the zombies are at their fastest, take a break, shake out your wrist, and let the lawnmowers take care of them.

The final wave consists of exactly 1 zombie per grave, so it's not too difficult -- as long as you've gotten rid of most of the graves.

You should be able to get it down to 3-4 graves. Then all the dozens of zombies will have to pour out of those few graves. It's like shooting zombies in a barrel.

By the way, when you are about to kill the last zombie, take your time and do it slowly, so you don't automatically click on the prize (moneybag). Let the moneybag sit there -- it's not going anywhere. If you have suns left, use them to destroy the remaining graves. You never know, there might be plants (or at least money) in there!

Hope that helps!

This forum have helped me a lot so i`ll attempth to guide the people who cant pass the "wack a zombie". Most player find it easy because most of us are computer gamers who have no trouble moving our mouse to where we wan and clicking really fast. so anyway, here is some advice

- Put ur mouse at the center of the graveyards(not the screen) when there is no zombie.
- Only use the grave buster at beginning, mid game. Aim for the graveyard thats furthest from the rest of the graveyard. instead of the most front. That mean ur mouse have to move less to wack them.
-Buy a mouse if ur using keypad
-Practise.
-Try to click on every zombie two time, Buckethead should be fairly obvious to click more
-Always aim for the nearest zombie from ur mouse instead of the most front zombie.

I hope those help, in the worst situation where u cant do it no matter how hard u try. Ask ur nearest computer geek for help. Its ok, being not being able to do this mission mean u prolly have a better outdoor life.

re:whack a zombie
The best advice I can give anyone who is struggling with this game is to use the grave buster and get rid of as many gravestones as you can also use the ice-shrooms when it gets a little crazy although this is one I dont use much because it only freezes the zombies that are on the screen at the time of use. Using the grave buster keeps the number of zombies down a little and keeps them farther back from the lawn mowers. Not sure how much this will help but I hope it helps a little... works for me!

* 6 magnet-shroom (+ coffee bean) on the second row

* 2 cat tail on the next row (center pool)

There will be no more new articles at Dave's shop. You can try to see, if you can solve alle the mini-games and play then the endles mode, which will make you need flowers, you might not have used before.

The choices, Dave does for you in the second time around are random, so it is hard to give advise. Most important there is to have all empty slots avaible at Dave.

Mike C. - Endless Mode

The room in the aqua-garden is for having 8 plants, no matter how many of one kind you have :). There are no more plants given after finishing the first adventure mode.

For the endless mode you will need more the upgrades of your plants as the corn cob or the cattail or the one for the mushroom, eventhough you play daytime.

In my opinion, this is the most challenging level at all - after the first 10 - 20 waves you will be really busy ;)

The person who noted Dr.Zomboss's eye color change was right. Also, it would help to notice catails appear to be weaker than a peashooter, and are mostly useful for ballon zombies. Also, in my opinion, FlyingFree survived thanks to his arsenal of mostly explosive plants, defensive plants, and fume-shroom replacements.

I used Flyinfree's defense in survival endless and i'm in my 334th flag right now hehe. thanks dude!!!

What I really hate was the jack-in-the box that blows away my gloom-shrooms.
well, here's a tip on how i survived.

Every 5 flags I quit the game and go to the PVZ folder and make a backup of the "userdata" folder (it contains all the saved game)and save it on a different path on my hard drive. So, if the jack-in-the-box is triggerhappy and destroys my defense beyond repair, I just upload the backup file and start where I left... this way I don't have to start the game all over again.
I'm planning to go more than 1,678 flags :D

Oh, this backup helps if your game crashes as well.

One more thing... anybody here knows how tall the tree of wisdom can go? presently mine is 900 feet tall!!! can't wait to unlock the pinata easter egg :D

Anyone notice gloom-shrooms only have a limited number of blasts; after about 10 blasts it doesn't do anything for 2-4 seconds.

Reply

@stoink

There is no limit to how tall the tree of knowledge can get but you stop getting anything new from it at 1000 feet.

Backing up your savegame so you can't die is cheating, any setup that can reach 100 flags can go forever if you backup and restore your savegames to undo jack accidents. The point is to see how long you can last without cheating. The only legitimate reason to restore a saved game is for a power outage or computer crash, but if you died your game is over.

This is the only item, you do not actually USE ;)
That you bought it, allows you to replace injured wal-nuts and pumpkins directly without removing them before with the shovel. Simply choose the walnut/pumpkin and click it on the injured one.

Don't worry, you did not lost it ;)
Go to main menu and choose the watering can, which brings you to the Zen Garden - there you will find an arrow top right.
Click it - it will bring you to the water-zen-garden, to the night-zen-garden and at last to your tree of wisdom.

It should be known that Gold Magnet Shrooms encourage Marigold's to spawn coins faster...

Has anyone heard of Plants Vs Zombies 2 ?

[Edit: I highly doubt you will see a sequel any time soon. And if you do see one, it will likely pale in comparison to the original, as there is just so much depth and imagination that went into it. In many ways PvZ is like Insaniquarium, and there hasn't been a sequel for that title either. -Jay]
