Treasure Adventure Game

JohnBBest of Casual Gameplay 2011Think open world platform adventure games (metroidvanias) like Knytt Stories and Celestial Mechanica are falling out of favor? Treasure Adventure Game is happy to prove you wrong. With its massive open world stocked from end to end with treasures, secrets, characters, quests, puzzles, and more, this old school throwback manages to combine adventure, RPG, and platforming genres into the kind of game you'll only have the honor of experiencing a few times in your life. Also: it's free!

treasureadventuregame.gifAn ancient legend tells of a world where all land was joined as a single continent and the people lived peaceful lives. An angry demon invaded the realm and threatened to destroy everything, but a wizard rose to the challenge and fought off the fiend. Before the demon was banished, he struck the core of the planet and sent a tidal wave surging across the surface, drowning most of the land and leaving isolated islands in its wake. The wizard knew the demon would return, so he hid the twelve enchanted items he used to defeat him in the hopes that a future hero could save the world when it was in peril.

Treasure Adventure Game begins many years after those events, casting you in the role of a boy who washed ashore on one of these islands. Now, it's time to go on an adventure! Armed with a hat (as all adventurers are required to have), a helpful parrot, a boat that appears whenever you touch water, basic platforming abilities like jumping and crawling, and treasure maps, you get to explore the secret-filled 2D world one island at a time, getting quests from characters that help provide you with the items you'll need to further explore the game's rich environments.

Treasure Adventure Game is largely quest-based in nature, and at any given moment you'll be working on at least one main task with a few others in the back of your mind. You'll encounter non-player characters in need of assistance, ranging from friendly forest mice to squiggly little worms trembling beneath the soil. Your trusty parrot pal allows you to communicate with these creatures, and he can also help you out of tight situations by allowing you to control him briefly.

treasureadventuregame.gifAnalysis: There is absolutely no reason for you not to fall in love with this title. It's huge, it's open, it's got a delightful retro look and feel, and it's packed with secrets and quests. And it's going to be one of the most wildly entertaining games you've played this year, no matter how many cool things you've encountered. Treasure Adventure Game has that magic "something" we all long for in our games but so rarely manage to find, the same sort of magic found in Cave Story when it was first released.

Treasure Adventure Game hides things all over the place. You should make it a habit to push against every wall, jump to every platform, and search for nooks and crannies to stick your adventurer's hat into every opportunity you get. There are hidden chests everywhere, including under the dirt and deep under the waters, and it's about as fun to find those as it is to work on the main quest!

If you like your games to start with a bang and keep the action going from the beginning, you'll probably find Treasure Adventure Game a bit slow at first. Sit tight, enjoy the story, talk to characters, and remember the details they provide. It all ties together nicely and helps fill out the world you'll spend so much time exploring.

The Treasure Adventure Game soundtrack has just been released, featuring music from the game, bonus tracks, concept sketches, and interactive maps of the entire game!

Simply put, Treasure Adventure Game is the captivating and satisfying game you need to play now. You've been waiting for a classic in the making, and here it is!

I'm having trouble downloading this.
This makes me sad.

I'm stuck :/

I found the compass, and the guy from the hat shop told me he had a map to some island where you could buy sail, but i can't figure out where to find this map. The parrot keeps telling me i still need to talk to somebody else in the big tree.

Also, i haven't figured out how to dig into sand yet. Not sure if that should be possible at this point yet.

Reply

Is there any way to mute the background music? Thanks

Nevermind

I found the hidden entrance above the hat shop.

The map to the sail was a bit too well hidden. Some players might have trouble finding it.
Otherwise, I've just obtained the sail ; I'm stopping for tonight.
This game is AWESOME. I haven't seen a lot of it, and the whole explorating ( kind of 2D Wind Waker, btw ), metroidvania thingy feels great. I love that kind of game, and the comparison you made with Cave Story is justified.

too hard for me. I rage-quited in the part at Somora city were the parrot has to carry the boulder.

@johnB: Your link gives me the same problem. After a little experimentation, the same problem occurs regardless of my browser.
Ah well.

This is a game that has me both enraged and intrigued. I love where the storyline is going, and I want to learn more. But... UGH the controls!

The programmer has set the "Up" key for menus to be the same as the "Interaction" key and set the "Jump" key to be something else. This means I'm forever pressing UP to jump instead of W (my keybind for jump). (Are we able to put two actions on one key or does this cause game-breaking problems?)

That aside, I often find I'm a split second too late in jumping, or I think I've missed a spike and I actually hit it, or the character skids just over the edge of a cliff. It's enough to make me extremely frustrated with the game.

Re-doing the entire section of the game again multiple times is NOT fun (despite some games' insistence that it should be), and I found I'm doing some sections ten or fifteen times before I get through them (and this is just on the getting-the-sail bit).

Question: Do we get to go back and deal with all the "problems" we see (such as the earthquakes and sick bugs) or are we, at this stage, just "passing through"? I found myself wanting to help but not finding any way of doing so.

Reply

I know exactly where the sail is,

under the statue at sea level, but I can't find how to get at it! Do I have to go in the museum or what?

Robit Studios just released an update:

Download Treasure Adventure Game Beta 0.6 Here

You can also expect a final build soon, so keep checking in. :)

Reply

Also, a note from the developer's blog:
"You can move your save-files from previous builds into the new one if you don't want to start a new game. Just copy the contents of the 'save_data' folder."

Very captivating.. but I just rage quit it, I couldn't take the amount of frustration :|

Okay, this is ridiculous. I really want to play this, but I can't even get through the intro sequence! I keep pressing z, and eventually, it stops working and I get stuck. This happens in Beta 0.5 and 0.6. Am I the only one stuck here?

Reply

@Reece: I made the same mistake you did

the numbers are just the local coordinates, and the origin (point 0,0) is that statue. What you want to do is ignore the numbers and just follow the arrow

Reply
CheeseDreamer November 27, 2011 7:01 PM

Thanks, John, I probably will.

Reply

So... I followed the compass to where it said the sail would be and there was nothing there. I was not at the statue, I followed the arrow, but still nothing. Any hints?

Reply

I'm lost....I got the sail, compass, lockpicks and a few more maps through exploring I think all the islands but I don't know where to go from here. I feel like I should have to learn a new skill in order to move on but I'm not sure yet. Anyone else find the next step?

I Know Karate November 27, 2011 9:38 PM

Hey guys, just a head's up.

I found the opening sequence troubling for someone with epilepsy. The lightening flashes were getting to me, and I had to choose between rushing through the dialogue, closing the game, or taking frequent breaks. I chose to take breaks and I was safe, but I wish there was a warning about this kind of thing.

And then when I thought I was going to be free from the flashes after entering the temple, the game froze.

Ah well. I'll wait for a later release to see if some of the bugs get worked out.

Thanks for all the good work you do!

Reply

Waiting for the store to open was tedious for me. A 'wait until dawn' option is a must IMO.

Also, too hard! Rage quit after going to the 6-15 store the first time. A difficulty option is a must IMO.

Disappointing, because it has loads of character and an intriguing story.

Reply

This game is pure genius, total adventure. I only felt like this with games like An Untitled Story or Within a Deep Forest. Those who quit it because of frustration are looking for other type of games, go play something easier.. (hehe)

I'm stuck trying to get to x:617 y:12. I can get to about 580ish, but then I get stuck at the saloon. The mushroom isn't bouncy and if I go into the passage way under the saloon I can't make the jump into the worm tunnel. Any hints?

Reply

ugh, it is now so obvious. nevermind.

Reply

I need help.

I got the treasure map to the first artifact, the one that's apparently in the pyramids. But I can't get there because a platform is too high for me. I can't dig through the sand so I can't place the big boulder either. What am I supposed to do?

Reply

And now I see what townhouse meant by obvious.

Inside the saloon, there's a hole at the right that you can drop into.

Reply

I have been following the arrows to treasure but the areas are either underground or on a high area I can not reach. Right now I have the first treasure, the shovel, hook and cannon. I have beaten the sewer monster, the pink monster far east and the pyramid monster. The maps I have open are coordinates X: -1232 Y: 0 , X: -1395 Y: -70, X: -543 Y: 55, and X: 1154 Y:21. I'm just sailing all over now trying to find the next step

Reply

so I have 4 treasure maps: 1,2,3,8. and treasures 1 & 2. I can't get to the coordinates of map #3 because I can't make the jump at the iceworld. Any hints as to what I have missed?

Also, I know how to help the sick mice (i think) but I can't get a bottle to water the plant and get the mushroom... again, any hints?

Reply

Following the cries for help, I'm at the big pyramid where the first artifact map points to. I can't figure out how to get the elevator working, as I don't see how it's possible to get the three boulders down there since there are holes at every path. Furthermore one boulder is too high up for me to jump up there. And finally, I got the throwing hook before but I died and now I can't find it again.

Reply

I'm at the first artifact boss (the one made of blocks in the big pyramid) and I have no idea on how to beat it. Any help? Thank you.

Reply

@Marie

You must dodge a sequence of three attacks from the boss, at which point one hand will flip upside down and his jaw will lower. Quickly run across his jaw before it shuts and jump onto his hand. Jump from his hand to the top of his head and attack one of his eyes. Each eye takes two hits to be destroyed, but you are kicked off of him after every attack you make on his eyes.

Reply

So, I have the first treasure and have found two additional maps...

one leading east where I am blocked by an icy island that I cannot climb, and one leading west to an island with lava where I can enter a cave with housing a switch I can't reach and nowhere else to go.

Any ideas? I have spent an hour revisiting every corner of the world I have access to so far.

I tried using the bottle to pick up his green chemistry set stuff and that did nothing, talking to the sick people did nothing, carrying the mushroom spores to the sick people did nothing... I don't understaaaand

Reply

@Alex M,

1. Have you updated the game to the current version? I couldn't get the quest to work in b0.5.

2. Are you using the action key to end the conversation? If you use the attack button, you might immediately drop the medicine as soon as he gives it to you.

Reply

Well, since nobody would help I had to figure it out myself.

As it turns out, the elevator is activated when you stand on it, and not by pushing the big yellow button which is for something different. And the problem with getting the boulder that's up too high can be solved if you take the elevator to the top.

However, I still have the problem of not being able to find the throwing hook. Where is it at?

Really cute game, liking it a lot! Only gripe is those angled mushroom jump springs are so infuriating! They throw you everywhere but where you want to go, not fun at all. Please fix them!

Stuck trying to figure out what to do next. In the same situation as Pat and bacon, but found map 2 and have the throwing hook now. It sent me to the giant tree, but I have nothing to collect the mushroom spores in and can't get any higher or find what to do after talking to the owl. I am thinking I need to find a jar, but have no idea where to find it. Been wandering for hours, can anyone set me on the right track?

I have the compass and I'm at the cave entrance, and I can't get in. Parrot tells me that I can use UP to interact, but I can't see anything to interact with!

Also, why does it take so long for you to die?! I just want it to be over with quickly so I can get back to repeating half the game because of the lack of save points, and I'm just sitting there for 5 minutes listening to creepy death music. Grump.

Have map 3, can't find map 2 or hook people are mentioning. Please hint - what did I miss? Thanks!

OMG I feel so dumb!!! OK I figures out the next step. Go all the way East to the island with the haunted house on it. Go into the tunnel/cave where there's a rock immediately to the right that would suggest using the parrot but instead go past it and start climbing upwards. There's a huge rock blocking the way to the right past a monster BUT you can push it out of the way!!!! This will take you further up to the witch's house and in turn get you another map!!!

hyperkinetic November 29, 2011 3:40 PM

serenhybrid- The door is invisible, just press up around the area the map leads you to.

I don't remember exactly which item I found where for Map 2,3, & 8 or the throwing hook but if you are missing something search these areas:

On your home Island there is a door that needs a pick near the East shore that has a switch in it. There is also an island with just sand and a locked door at the bottom. And there is a boss battle at the bottom of the fist tiny dungeon on your home Island with a worm thing, and a mini battle at the top of the giant tree. These all lead to items.

I also still really need help finding where to go after you solve the toxic waste problem. I can't get onto the Western Ice Island, or hit the switch on the island with the dripping lava pipes. (I have the throwing hook and got the second treasure). I need to find the

jar

I think, but haven't seen

the Ghost Island

To get the grappling hook:

Travel to the island east of Angel Oak, and fall into the first quicksand trap. You'll end in a cave below, the grappling hook is on the left.

I'm stuck in the tree. There's a room near the top with a red switch on the wall and a pool full of fish. I can't trigger the switch or find another way to progress.

you need the throwing hook to get the green lever inside the lava island.

to get the throwing hook go to the first sand island to the east of the big tree and fall on the first quicksand

after you get the throwing hook and make it out of the cave in the lava island keep going east, there will be lots of islands on the way but just keep going until you get to the ghost island ;)

Thanks FireWalk. As for your problem:

You need to hit the switch with the throwing hook. In order to hit it, hold down Up, then press Jump and the Attack button at the same time. That should align the hook with the switch.

Can someone please help me with the pyramid part with the elevator. I have no idea what I'm doing.

Reply

@ Moerae
You should notice that there seem to be paths marked out in the background. The thin paths show where you need to push the smaller blocks and the big path is for the big block. If I remember correctly, you'll need to jump on the big block at one point to reach one of the smaller blocks.

I'm having trouble at the pyramid. I'm still looking for the first treasure, but am stuck at the same place townhouse was...

So I've gotten stuck after finishing the ghost island.

I got the Mouse hat now and I thought that by wearing it I would be able to pass by the big pink snake that's blocking my path to the red lever for the draw bridge. So how on Earth am I then supposed to get rid of him?

Reply

Hey Nancy-

isn't that giant block by the green spider strange...? It might serve as a useful stepping stone...

Hey Themepark-

sounds like you need a weapon on your ship. Have you gotten the cannon map yet?

I can be more direct than that if you want... let me know.

I'm stuck at the same place as kingluigi -
first four treasures (and I have the cannon). I don't have a map for treasure five, which as RobWatts has pointed out, I don't need... BUT I don't even know where to start looking... do I need the dive helmet?... I have the map for that but

there's an unbreakable icebridge in my way...

Reply

I have the treasure from the pyramid and from angel oak island. I cant go west because I cant make the jump on the ice island and I can't go east because I cant get past the lava island. What should I do?

Reply

ThemePark: You need the cannon to defeat the pink sea monster.

Look for some unexplored areas on the monkey island.

Lys: If I recall correcly, when I dug on Ebner island, a chest and a door appeared. Like you, I did this before I had the map.

The door was in the tree at ground level. Maybe try going to the tree and 'interacting' pressing up?

Reply

@themepark
you don't need to get rid of him

you can put some wind on the jar next to the old woman house then use it to jump over the gap, i'm pretty sure that's not how the game wants you to pass there, but it works fine

;)

Reply

@RafaDL:

But the monster is out in the sea, and I can't use the jar while I'm on the boat.

Reply

@themepark

you don't need to pass the monster, you can use the jar to jump over the bridge instead of lowering the bridge

Reply

Could somebody tell me where the fifth treasure map is, or how to get the dive helmet?

Reply

@themepark

If you have the cannon for the boat, you should be able to fight the red snake creature blocking the red lever.

Reply

never mind about the dive helmet. For anybody else who is stuck there:

Select the map for the dive helmet. Go to the spot where the arrow points straight down, then interact with the bushes. This will reveal a torch, which can be used to melt the ice bridge.

Reply

@themepark,RafaDL

You are indeed supposed to get rid of him. You do that by

killing him with the cannon, which can be found

on the jungle island

in a hidden area near one of the waterfalls.

Reply

seriously, this game needs - I repeat, needs - a wait command. If you are going to have shops only open at certain times and doors that are time sensitive, you should not have the player wait around for the proper time. That is not good design.

Reply

Ok. I've been stuck in this room for ages and I can't get the switch! It's the room leading to the second treasure I think (the one in the tree) and it's full of fish and hanging hooks. The red switch is on the right wall and I've been chucking my hook at it for ages but it won't go. I can't get to the platform so I'm assuming I have to get the switch to get the platform to come out. Am I doing something wrong?

An incredible game. Very well built, but still not quite ready for prime time - hence the beta tag.

I've discovered and reported a handful of glitches, but this is to be expected with a beta game. I have great expectations for the finished product.

One observation, though - while there's an active user community (on his site), and there are lots of comments here, no one (that I've seen) has posted a walkthrough. I know the whole world is immense, and would take untold hours of playing through, but has no one gone all the way through?

Is there any interest in posting partial walkthroughs - like a walkthrough of an entire treasure map, starting with where you get the map, to where you get the treasure? Someone could combine them at the end, and have a pretty decent product, right? I'll look at the 2 maps I recently got, and see if I can post walkthroughs for them. At the same time, I've missed some items in the big oak tree, (and other stages as well).

Anybody in?

Reply

I'm happy to offer up a bounty for anyone who wants to write up an accurate and complete walkthrough for us to publish here.

Posting in sections is a good way to get things started anyways. We can work out the compensation later once it's all done.

I know how to hurt it, but I just can't seem to kill it without getting hit by one of the slime balls. Help?

To find the cannon:

As I said earlier it is on the jungle island with the monkeys. Go to the middle pool (the one with piranhas) and sail behind the waterfall.

@dylpickles, it takes about 6 hits to kill the thing. When it's on the conveyor belt make sure there isn't a mushroom between you and the bug otherwise the mushroom blocks your throw.

Oak Tree - medicine question:

What's the point in healing the creatures in the oak tree? All I've gotten is "good karma". I'm pretty sure that I've gotten them all - the two in the doctor's office and the one in the first room. I went back to the doctor, and (s)he acknowledged that everyone was healthy, but didn't give me anything.

I know it's only a beta at the moment so that probably explains a lot of the issues I'm having, but like some of the other comments I'm tempted to give up out of frustration. The movement system really needs some tweaking; the character runs too slowly like he's running in treacle most of the time but then when he stops he skids far too much, which makes it really unintuitive.

also for too many jumps the character has to jump *right* from the edge of a platform to make it across a gap which spoils the flow of the movement. I guess some die-hard plaformers would argue that it takes skill, but for me it's a bit annoying

movement is way too slow in general imo which sucks a lot of fun out of the game and makes you loathe the bits where you constantly have to re-do it.. and also as someone else mentioned if you're going to make a game where you're likely to repeat lots of bits the die-screen needs to be a lot shorter.

But those issues aside the game is great! I sooo much want to love it as much as cave story or snailiad.. it defnitely has great potential.

I've poured a jar of water into the floating cup, but it only fills it half up. If I try to add more water it doesn't rise the water level.

I see that there's a torch and I figure that maybe that needs to be lit to continue, but there is nowhere I can get fire and still be able to reach the cup. So how am I supposed to do this?

Reply

@CrankYanker

Try going back to the witch that showed you where the bottle was. That'll get you treasure #3, I think. And possibly another map or two.

Okay, so I just bought the house for 1000 coins, and there doesn't seem to be anything to do in it... I'm still missing two interdimensional fragments(Is one from winning the Holodeck Game? I really hope not...), and I got the

Oh, I think I remember that one. You have to

go INSIDE the island. I think now that you have the bottle, you can fix the bridge in Somora. To the left of the bridge, up at the top, is a fire wall. Use some water to put that out, and continue through there.

Head right. Start making your way around this room clockwise. Go up the moving platforms, to the left first to grab lightning atop the gears, and hit the first gem on the right wall. Continue upwards, across the pistons, and fire lightning at the gem to the left. Further right, push the glowing block onto the gears, and into it's slot on the left. Grab some lightning and activate the gem above. Further down, duck on the second gear to avoid the spikes, and push the block onto the gears again and into it's slot on the right. Grab some lightning to trigger the last gem, and cross the pistons back the the entrance. Take the elevator up to the boss.

Activate the computer, move your yellow dot to pick up all the green ones, while avoiding the red. Attempt to leave through the door on the right. Use the green lasers to get to the available computer, and play it's minigame. Afterwards, hit the glowing pink side of the ball to stun it until the parrot can drop a gear on it. About the Holodeck game (BreakRys):

  • You pay 200 coins to be able to play it an unlimited number of times.

  • Beating the high score of 3200 nets you 500 coins

  • The owner tells you that you can only get a reward once - I confirmed this for beating my own high score once.

  • There is a way to cheat a little bit:

Wear the red hat. The ball will bounce off of your head if you are wearing it, making it a little easier to keep a combo

It is definitely possible to beat the high score without cheating.

Thanks for all your help, eklu, that enabled me to make a lot of progress.

However, I'm now stuck on the flashlight map.'

I don't see how to hit the red switch, since I can't possibly get up there even when having the boot.

    Also,

Has anybody found a use for the house you can buy? I figure you can light the fireplace, but there's no fire source nearby. Other than that it doesn't seem useful for anything.

I need help with Solfor Island.

How do I light the torch when the bomb can only explode from that distance away?

    Reply

    He, power of posting.

Shoot the cannon at the diagonal rod holding up the platform with the switch.

And I got stuck again, at the same treasure.

I got a flag for my boat now, although I don't see how that's going to help me...And I'm running on the big wheel, turning it in both directions but I don't see anything happening. I was expecting an elevator or something.

    Reply

Oh, right, I remember that one. The map's coordinates are actually a

red herring. Go to the island with the monkeys (should be to the east). You should also have some other treasture map directing you there. It'll lead you to the corridor right before the jumping red frogs (After the vine jumping). Search around for a hidden door. Once inside, take the top route. That'll lead you to the secret animal village. But I think you'll need to have the mouse hat from the island of dead animals, otherwise the rhino won't let you pass. And then after all that, head west. The flashlight will be at the coordinates.

    JigGuest, try

hitting the bomb repeatedly, until it falls near the torch. Then it'll detonate, lighting it

I'm stuck in the same place as Moe - in the tree with the jumping fish and red lever. I've thrown that hook from every surface in the room, and it just won't throw the lever. I read a previous comment that says to hold up, then press jump and attack together, but it didn't say where to do that. Please help, this is so frustrating!

When doing the bird task on Povaglia island, I got repeatedly glitched out... the bird would get stuck in walls and things and I couldn't get him back or do anything. Quite frustrating.

    The Big Wheel:

You can actually go up and over the wheel, just tricky timing is needed.Use the platforms on the left wall then cross over to the top. When you get up there, you'll read a sign that says "Turn the wheel counter clockwise a full revolution to turn on the water." or something similar. You can then use the water/bottle to kill the fire enemies.

    Solfor Island Puzzle Hint.

This is for the puzzle on the right hand side of the island. There are bomb guys dropping down the tube, an unlit torch, an unmoving fan and 2 blocks. It requires the magic bottle to solve.

    Hint

You need to turn the fan. Steam will turn the turbine. Heated water under pressure will make steam.

    Solution

    First:

Hit one of the bomb guys over to light the torch. He'll light it when he detonates.

    Second:

Move the lower block down and position it in the small indent below the chain. This will allow you to jump on the platform to the right of the chain while holding water in the bottle.

    Third:

Jump to the lower platform and fill the bottle up from the water that plumes up. You have to get close to the edge. Now go back up to the upper level using the block you positioned earlier and pour the water into the 'kettle'. It's the thing to the right of the fan.

    Fourth

Move the upper block down and push it into the hole above the kettle. Be careful of the bomb guys. They can blow up your block and you'll have to leave the room and restart.

    Fifth

Grab some fire from the torch and heat the bottom of the kettle. Done.

Great game. Particularly impressed with the dungeon designs; not only were they very distinct, but often in these sorts of games a dungeon is just a seemingly random collection of enemies and puzzles -- these were very nicely unified, right from the get go -

The pyramid, which had basically one giant puzzle - getting the big block to the bottom.

My favorite, though, by far, was

the mushroom-themed dungeon; the absolutely bizarre trip sequence for the heart was a real treat.

Also impressive were the boss fights; again, very creative, for the most part, and nicely difficult. Until you have a strategy, you're almost certainly going to die, but once you figure out the right tactic, they're very beatable. My favorite was easily

the mainframe in the Globocorp factory - loved the references to classic games during the avoidance portions of the fight, and the three "phases" of the battle really kept you on your toes.

Good music, clever puzzles, a unique

warp system, which doubles as a time-speeder-upper - though naturally I didn't discover the dang thing til right near the end

... also enjoyed the completely unnecessary weather effects, was a very nice touch.

    My biggest beef:

The reward for collecting 40 dimensional fragments was a huuuuge let down.

My second biggest complaint is with the ending.

The reveals about your dad and Baggus are fine, if a bit predictable, and the appearance of the two gods is pretty neat, but the homages to video games of yore during the actual fight with Loukang feel out of place, though I admit they made me smile. Coupled with the very sudden end, it didn't feel in keeping with the tone of the game. Not to mention it was probably the easiest boss battle in the game!

Overall, almost certainly the best free game I've played all year. Kudos to everyone involved.

    Reply

@exuno your guide is relatively complete, but you don't need all the dimensional fragments to get 100% and the good ending(cited by the person who actually made the game, on his website, there are

    40

    fragments)

That being said, there is apparently at least one thing that your guide's missing, and that's the

    garden

, but I don't personally know how to get it. I'll glance through the comments and see if anyone posted how to get that.

To those only getting the Bad End:

Have you defeated the boss of GloboCorp?

I'm not sure if that changes anything as I'm fighting him just now and haven't finished it, but I think the good ending requires you to find out what happened 10 years ago.

    lavalanche December 4, 2011 4:00 PM

    To get the good end

you also need the 1. tv, 2. painting and 3. garden in your house.

    1.

    TV bought from 6:15 store

    2.

Painting bought from the artist on the top floor of the building between the nightclub and holocade in the city.

    3.

The garden can be gotten from the woman standing outside her house on your home island, once you have bought the house.

This game is freaking amazing. Joins the top ranks of my favourite ever games and all comparisons to Windwaker are justified. TAG is wonderful.

Actually, nevermind that, I looked at the walkthrough, I didn't realize there was a description of how to get the maps.

Has anybody been able to beat the highscore in Breakrys? Even with the red hat on, I can't get more than 400. The hook seems very ineffective but I'm pretty sure that's the only way to hit the ball.

I think I hit a glitch on Solfor island:

In the conveyor belt room, when I go through the door at the top, I end up in the same place. Is this normal?

    Reply

@ThemePark: Breakrys just relies on a lot of practice and some luck. Always stay underneath the ball, hit it whenever possible, and hope the gems keep spawning where it will fall. If you can manage to keep a chain up the entire game, you'll have well cleared 3200 points. The reward is only coins, though, so it's not worth spending the effort if you don't find it fun in itself.

@LaserGhost: That tripped me up for awhile, too. The outer door there has an oversight that accepts the same input you used to leave to reenter it. It's been reported and should be fixed in the final version, for now just make sure you release up as quickly as you can, before outside loads.

I was stuck there too for a little while, you just need perseverance. you need to get a good angle when bouncing off the left wall initially and keep jumping from the first platform to the 2nd. It took me many tries but the next jumps are easier.
    Good luck!

Having a hard time with a boss fight,

    in the Exitium mines.

I've come across the boss, a giant drill-weilding mech that throws dynamite and bombs. I feel like the strategy is to pick up the bombs as the mech goes down to drill and throw them at it. The bombs explode in the middle of the mech, and there is no damage counter (for example, "-1" or "-2.") Furthermore, this thing will NOT DIE! I keep throwing bombs and hitting the mech in the dead center, but it never shows any sign of weakening or taking damage, and it never dies.

    Am I doing it wrong?

    Reply

    Kyle,

It took me a long time to figure that out too. What the bombs are for is actually to throw at the foot of the mech, which will allow you to go under him. Head to the left and up, and you will find something that'll help you![

I keep hitting a glitch on a boss

    In the mines

I get to the mine cart and throw bombs at it, but when it dies I go shooting off to the right in the mine-cart, and the boss gets stuck trying to fall into the pit. It's still throwing bombs and I can see it's little feet pumping, but nothing else. So far it's only taken 1 or 2 hits to kill, so maybe that's causing the freak out. Has anyone come across this, and/or have any ideas how to fix it?

OK, I give up. I seriously can not beat

Roelof and Lugus in Globocorp. I can hit them once, but I get flung back so far that by the time I've reached them to get them again, the other one has come up and is swording me! Even if I do manage to hit them twice, 9 times out of 10 they aren't in the right position to go into the lasers.

I am so frustrated with this! I love the game and I really want to see it through, but I am properly stuck here. Does anyone have any tips at all to get through this, please!!!

    @Serenhybrid

Don't give up! Trust me, you'll get it!

What I did to defeat them was just hold the directional button down the entire time moving towards them. You have to block one of their strikes effectively by swinging as you get close to them. This freezes them for a few seconds and allows for your chance to knockback into the lasers. It's tedious because you have to get both of them, but if you find a rhythm, they'll come at you far enough apart that you can easily knock them down into the lasers. Once you've knocked them into the lasers and they jump to the lower level, use the same strategy, but don't hold the left directional button down, you have to wait and time it a little bit better.

Trust me! You can do it! It's worth it! And you can take satisfaction in the fact that after you beat them,

You get to fight an even HARDER boss! Like, BALLS hard.

    So don't give up!

    Reply

I cannot for the life of me manage to get the flashlight. I must have tried a hundred times and the jumping mechanic fails each time. I either get stuck in a straight upward line and can't move left to the next set of platforms, or my jar gets turned on the next jump and I don't have enough time to refill it/jump to the next before the platform beneath me crumbles. A save point right before those platforms would have been nice considering it's not really challenging getting TO them, just PAST them.

So, I finally have time to try out this impressive sounding game and... I can't download it. I see someone provided a dropbox link to download for the .6 version, and that worked okay, but now I see the full version is here and I would like to download that version. I started playing the version I was able to download, but shortly after the intro the screen it went black and I wasn't able to do anything. The game screen also had a habit of burying itself in the bottom right corner of my screen, which was highly annoying. I hope these were problems that were fixed in the full release, but as I've said, I can't seem to download it.

I would really, really hate for technical difficulties to ruin this game for me before I've even played it.

@Concrete: as far as I can tell, there's no way to back up to a previous save point. Just keep at it. The boss requires some practice, but you can do it!

I finally finished the game yesterday. My only real complaint was actually the bird. I kind of wanted it to have more of a role, because half the time I completely forgot it was there and there didn't seem to be any real reason to have a companion.

And then the ending came (MAJOR SPOILERS!),

and we find out the bird was the kid's dad the whole time, and then he has this heroic sacrifice moment and dies. It was a good plot twist, and I wanted it to be a more powerful moment than it was, but I had practically no emotional connection with the parrot, so losing him didn't resonate with me the way it should have. And I didn't have any connection with the father in his human form either, because, seriously, he was kind of an a-hole in the flashbacks. It was nice that he redeems himself, but there just wasn't enough positive emotional backing from parrot!dad to overcome the buildup of negative vibes I got from human!dad in the flashbacks.

Help! I'm being stymied by the #3 Treasure boss!

When the fight with the 'bone dragon' starts, sometimes the ghost I'm meant to chuck at it appears right at the beginning, sometimes it appears five minutes later, by which time I'm already dead. The hand that pops out of the ground where I'm standing makes it so much more difficult to dodge the bones thrown by the spinning discs. The hand that forms the platform for me to stand on and toss the ghost at the dragon forms too early or too late, and sometimes I can't jump on it, either by virtue of it forming just a pixel too high (a pixel's height difference seems to make jumps throughout the game needlessly tricky), or by clipping through it. Is there a trick to getting the ghosts to appear earlier? Is there a 'safe spot' I can wait in?
