greatkitchenescape.jpgJohnBFresh out of the oven from Pastel Games (with coding by Mateusz Skutnik of the Submachine series fame) is a short but zany point-and-click room escape game called The Great Kitchen Escape. You start off staring at an extremely colorful kitchen that looks like it was lifted straight from a cartoon. Click the arrows to move around the room and use the mouse to interact with objects and gather items. It's an easy point-and-click game that scores major points for its artwork and slightly wacky puzzles.

There's no story behind The Great Kitchen Escape, but it doesn't really need one. The goal is to find items in the kitchen and assemble a few of them to make your way out of the room. Your inventory is displayed at the top of the screen and a tiny tool icon in the upper left corner takes you to the assembly menu. Look everywhere and click everything to uncover all the items, as you never know what role an object will play in the grand scheme of things.

The Great Kitchen Escape is a very short game and not very difficult, but the visuals, music and atmosphere are just so fun you won't be able to help yourself. You feel like a kid in a cartoon as you snoop through cabinets and play with the parrot in a cage. No pixel hunting or frustration, just pure and simple room escaping. A perfect diversion guaranteed to induce a smile or two.

That was good. I loved the music!

I think this is my favorite escape game I've ever played. I only wish it could go on longer.

Reply

A fun game, but nothing special. I didn't like very much the cartoonish graphics. But maybe this is only a break from the Submachine stress!

Reply

Nice little one. I always said these short and rather easy room escape games are very important because the longer and more complex ones are harder to gain new fans with.

My only complaint: the inventory covers part of the hot spots. They cover nothing important, still I think it shouldn't be like this.

But that's a minor point and this game deserves each of the 5 stars.

Reply

Short, but great. I like that everything is logical and seems, well, almost possible in real life.

Reply

This was super-cute! I agree with bioLarzen; this is the sort of game to introduce to people who say, "You play escape games? What does that even mean?"

Reply

Pastelgames site must be down... : (

Reply

There are alternative links provided above.

Reply

Not bad. Very easy. I only got stuck at the end when I didn't notice the construct button. I couldn't figure out how to combine items. :/ But other than that it was a cute game, if a little short.

Reply

Almost too easy. But that must mean that I'm getting good at escape games! Hooray!

Reply

Finally one I could do without even a PEEK at a walkthrough. I could have written the walkthrough this time! Yay me! haha

So fun, especially on the heels of Mateusz's latest Sub-machine game.

Reply

Very cool! The construct feature is innovative and I liked it very much, I hope to see more, it would be very fun to play longer and more complex versions of this. The sort of Ren and Stimpy cartoony graphics are a good addition to the genre.

I agree that the inventory list should be separated from the gaming area, if only so it doesn't hide the art.

I heard the Skutnik Squeak when I turned the faucets! Nice touch!

Great game!
When was Submachine 5 released? Two days ago? Someone has been busy. Is Covert Front 3 coming out tomorrow?

This was so much fun! This is more or less the definition of casual gaming. A simple game, with no frustration, that gives you a quick 5-min boost of interest in your boring day ^_^

5/5!

Reply

Wow... I've never completed an escape game without getting stuck or a little help from a walkthrough before... that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside...

Reply

So cuuuute! And I didn't even need a walkthrough!

That was great fun! Perfect five-minute break from work.

Reply

quite easy but reaaaally nice, I love the cartoon graphics. more!

Reply

Loved this point-and-click game!! Normally it's too hard for me so i give up after a while and find a walkthrough. Plenty of small challenges but overall very easy! This is the first point-and-click game i've managed to do without any help at all. (i remember in the attic one i couldn't find the last one or two so had to sneak a spoiler)

Reply

It looks like none of the links are working now. :(

I get some kind of weird mysql error on the second link and the first two never load anything but the ad.

Oh well, maybe next week.

Reply

Marian - I think you were just unlucky in your timing. Armor Games was down for just a bit, but Pastel Games has been down for the last day due to server load.

Reply

Now it's working. Sweet game.

Reply

I like this one! (even if I didn't find the thing in the birdcage at first)

Who says an escape game has to be doom and gloom, with dire consequences unless you escape? (Wait, that sounds a lot like work...)

Once in a while it's nice to have a P&C/escape game that's light and fun.

Reply

That was one of the best escape games I have ever played! I just wished it was a bit onger, like maybe you then had to escape from the rest of the house, room by room.

Reply

to whom it concerns

could you please let me know how to get onto the walkthrough for 'the great kitchen escape' if you could get this infomation to me as soon as possible that would be great

thanx Bambi

It won't let me pick up the boiling water. I'm stuck because of that! Did anybody else have this problem?

Reply

its cool a bit short it only took me 1 Min to do so i think they should make it longer

Great game! the graphics are very comforting, in a homey-no-stress kind of way. Also, it was real easy- which is always great self esteem booster =P

I did'nt realize at first that you were suposed to be building something. I was randomly clicking around for 10 minutes before I realized I was suposed to be making something, so I wish it was more clear about that. But other than that a great game.

This was very simple, and yet quite enjoyable. One of the things that got me the most was the upbeat music and the comic style. Took me about 5 minutes to get through but worth every second! If they make more complex ones I'll be back for more for certain!

I thought this one was pretty good, but no where near as intuitive from a puzzle perspective as it's predecessor. What I would have really liked are some failure cutscenes when you try something that seems like it'll work instead of just nothing happening. This will make it feel like your attempts give some information, instead of what I ended up with, which was random combinations of items. I still love the style and would like to see more of these types of puzzles, but this was a small step backwards for me.

Reply

Awesome! I'm super frustrated with myself though. I almost did the whole thing without looking at the walkthough. But I got stuck on the concept of

putting the kettle back where I found it instead of on the stove.

But that's understandable, right? :)

I thought that this was a really well done game. I liked that the puzzles were actually logical and there was 0 pixel hunting, which are both my most common gripes with escape games. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer, because it was fun. Excellent, 5/5!

I LOVE THIS GAMEE <3
here's the walkthrough:

Open the cupboards in the room to get the: mixer and beater.
Take the kettle and fill it with water from the tap.
Place the kettle back where you first picked it up. (RED TRAY)
Click the right hand to go to the table. Click on the camera. Click on the button on the side of it to see back view. Click the square opening to get the batteries.
Click the right hand again to go to the view of the stove and the fridge. Open the freezer to get the frozen fish. Open the cupboards to get the power cord. Click beside the fridge to get the bowl. Place the bowl on the counter and put in the frozen fish. Click the right hand again to see the view of the door with the bird. Click the bird cage. Then click the bird to pull out a feather.
Click on the dog. Click on the dogs nose with the feather. Take the dog collar that appears.
Go back to the screen with the kettle. Plug the power cord into the kettle and then into the wall. Take the kettle with the boiled water. Pour the boiled water into the bowl. Click on the bowl and take the spear thing.
Go to construct mode. (THE HAMMER IN THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE SCREEN).
Place all the items in their correct spots. Then use the tool that you are given to unscrew the door and you're through!
CONGRATULATIONS!

It was no World of warcraft, but it was very cool Short and sweet though im glad not every room escape game is like otherwise it would be boring=D

Reply

I loved this game. I thought it was kind of short though, I think they should have added more to this game. I started off pretty good, but sooner or later, I needed a walkthrough.

Reply

haha that was awesome...... just make it a lil tougher. i vote a 87!

Reply

thanks for the help!

Reply

FINALLY!! i completed one of these without any help or peek at the walkthrough at all!! hurrah :D

to everyone who slags this series off, it is a great start for beginners if nothing else.

Reply

What stands out more then anything? The cartoonish graphics and especially plumberish (for lack of a better term) sound effects. Truly superb!

Reply

I don't get the last part, where you put the sun in the picture. Please post a comment to help me!!!

Reply

Absoutly Loved this game! I Enjoyed the entire series! Keep em coming!

Reply

This game is sensational! I am quite fond of it. I shall play it again sometime. I do wish there were more games like this one in our world.

Reply

Wow I feel REALLY dumb. Found everything I needed just fine! Used a bunch of the items, and then I was completely stuck! Clicked everything and tried every combination I could think of even if it didn't make sense. Finally I caved and peeked at the walkthrough. Where did I go wrong?:

totally overlooked the "construct" icon! I've never seen an escape game that uses that before. I was trying to put battieres + mixer + beater because it made SENSE but had no idea I needed the "plans"
